Located 10km from Sapa town to the southeast, Muong Hoa Valley is an attractive destination attracting travelers’ footsteps to the highlands. It is not difficult to recognize Muong Hoa Valley, crossing a pass along the mountain range, visitors will be fascinated by charming characteristics of convergence of earth and sky here. This wonderful valley inhabited by many ethnic groups contains a great natural beauty that captivates the soul of visitors afar.

This valley is like a tilted basin with Muong Hoa stream stretching 15 km, passing through the towns of Lao Chai, Ta Van, Hau Thao and ending at Ban Ho. Muong Hoa stream is downstream part of the famous waterfall named Thac Bac (Silver Waterfall). The stream is the same as a giant python winding, and going along the stream is rice terraces looking like “a ladder to the heaven”. In the season of ripening rice, the sparkling yellow reflects on the water glorifying the beauty of this magical valley.

In addition to the romantic beauty, Muong Hoa valley also attracts tourists because there is a mysterious ancient rock field, situated between trees and rice terraces of ethnic minorities. Hundreds of sandstone rocks carved motifs and drawings, those strange characters have not yet determined the origin and meaning.

All ancient fields of stones with beautiful carvings are concentrated in Ban Pho. There are a lot of great stones engraved with various shapes. Especially, the shape of people in various postures. They not only provide the value in terms of art but also has spiritual significance, as a mystery message of that ancestors left to the posterity.

Entering inside the valley, visitors can admire many wonderful pictures of Muong Hoa. You also have the opportunity to visit villages of the ethnic groups such as Black H’mong, Red Yao, and Giay. The local people are very hospitable, they will lead you to visit some terraced fields, to see the dazzling beauty of nature and to learn how to cultivate of farmers.
