Huong Canh Pottery Village

Being one famous village in a good selection of traditional handicraft villages in Vinh Phuc province, Huong Canh village in Tam Canh commune, Binh Xuyen district, on the side of National Highway Two, about one – hour drive from Hanoi to the north is very famous for its ceramic art with a thousand – year history.

Historically, the grandfather of the career in the village was Do Quang. He came to the village and taught ceramic technics for villagers. Now his temple and statue are in the village. Every year, locals celebrate a founder’s death anniversary on January 6th, the day when the founder of pottery died.
Huong Canh pottery was once famous throughout the north and central region because of its beauty and endurance, especially its natural glaze. Ceramic products are diverse such as vases, maize and other grain crops and later on, as well as pots for making tea and cooking utensils and coffins for burial. These products have unique colors of grayish blue, brown and yellow.

In 1950s, the Huong Canh Handicraft Product Co-operative successfully produced Huong Canh tiles, making Huong Canh pottery brand even more famous.
